The organization released a teaser image right now for the upcoming D23 Expo — which opens this Friday, August 9, and runs via August 11 — telling attendees to “ask for something WEIRD.” The accompanying e-mail added that doing so would result in “your first look at an all-new project coming from Marvel & Disney!”

WGN America has been instructed to adapt DC Comics “Scalped” into a one hour drama pilot. It is described as a modern day crime noir/western story set on a Native American Indian reservation and based on the 60-issue graphic novel series from DC imprint Vertigo Comics written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by R.M. Guéra.
The series focuses on the Oglala Lakota inhabitants of the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation in modern-day South Dakota as they grapple with organised crime, rampant poverty, drug addiction and alcoholism, local politics and the preservation of their cultural identity. It explores themes of power, loyalty and spirituality in a community that is led by the ambitious Chief Lincoln Red Crow a.k.a. John Rayfield Bustill, a bullish Lakota elder in his fifties, a “big man” on the reservation with fingers in many pies, he is President of the Oglala Tribal Council, Sheriff of the Tribal Police Force and Managing Director of the Crazy Horse, his chief project since leaving the Native American Rights movement. The series follows Chief Lincoln Red Crow as he reckons with Dashiell “Dash” Bad Horse a.k.a. Dashiell Bradford, a full-blooded Oglala Lakota who left the Prairie Rose Indian Reservation at the age of thirteen before returning to the reservation with a vengeance in 2007. Jamie Coots a Kentucky pastor who shot to fame by starring in a reality TV show, Snake Salvation by the National Geographic about snake-handling in church, has sadly died, from a snakebite. Jamie Coots was bitten on the hand by a rattlesnake during a weekend church service in Kentucky. He refused to be treated by paramedics and later died. Local newspapers have reported that Coots had previously received up to 8 bites, but had not been affected by them. It was also reported that after the bite in church, Coots dropped the snake but then picked it up again. “He had one of the rattlers in his hand,” a church goer told a local news station. “It just turned its head and bit him in the back of the hand… within a second.” Coot’s son said that his father had not wanted a fuss and wanted to go and lie down and recuperate as he had done all those times before.
